The Google News Initiative (GNI) today announced the launch of the Asia-Pacific Local News Leaders Academy, a new training program designed to help local news publishers in the region develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the digital age.
The academy is a collaboration between GNI and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). It will provide training to local news publishers in five Asia-Pacific countries: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
The program will focus on four key areas:
* **Digital transformation:** Participants will learn how to use digital tools and technologies to improve their newsgathering, storytelling, and audience engagement.
* **Business sustainability:** Participants will develop the skills they need to build sustainable business models for their news organizations.
* **Product development:** Participants will learn how to develop new products and services that meet the needs of their audiences.
* **Leadership and innovation:** Participants will develop the leadership skills they need to drive innovation and change within their news organizations.
The academy will be led by a team of experienced trainers from GNI and WAN-IFRA. The program will be delivered through a combination of online and in-person training sessions.
