Primark Taps New US VP, Pennys Ireland Head

Primark has announced the appointment of Jose Luis Martinez de Larramendi as its new vice president for the US, effective August 15.

Martinez de Larramendi will be responsible for leading the development and execution of Primark’s growth strategy in the region, the fast-fashion chain said. He will be based at Primark’s New York office and report directly to Damien O’Neill, the retailer’s chief operating officer.

Martinez de Larramendi joins Primark from Dollar General Corp., where he worked as the company’s senior vice president of global sourcing for the past five years. Before that, he held senior leadership roles at Sears and Kmart.

In a separate move, Primark has also named Ger Garland as head of Penneys in Ireland, the Irish arm of the retailer. Garland is currently the general manager of operations for Ireland and takes on his new role on Sept. 9.

Garland has more than 20 years of experience with Primark. He started his career as a store manager in Ireland, and has since held various leadership roles in the country and in the UK.

The appointments come as Primark continues to expand its presence in both the US and Ireland. The company opened its first US store in Boston in 2015, and has since expanded to 13 locations across the country. In Ireland, Primark operates 37 stores, and is planning to open a new flagship store in Dublin in 2020.
