Primark US Names New VP, and Penneys Ireland Gets New Head

Primark US has appointed Meghan Flynn as vice president, while in Ireland, Penneys has promoted Damien O’Neill to head of the business there..

Flynn, who will report to Joe Phelan, president of Primark US, will oversee buying, planning and allocation, and sourcing for the value fashion retailer’s US business. Most recently, Flynn was vice president and divisional merchandise manager, women’s, for PVH Corp.

In Ireland, O’Neill succeeds Breege O’Donoghue, who left Penneys in April to join Asos as chief commercial officer. O’Neill will lead the Penneys business in Ireland and Northern Ireland, where the company trades as Penneys and employs over 3,700 people. He joined the company in 2014 as retail operations manager and was promoted to retail director in 2017.

Founded in 1969 in Dublin as Penneys, the company rebranded to Primark across all of its markets outside of the island of Ireland in 2009 to avoid confusion with JCPenney, the US department store chain. Today, Primark has over 400 stores in 14 countries and employs over 70,000 people.

The retailer has been on an expansion drive in the US in recent years. In 2022, the company opened its first two stores in New Jersey, and it plans to open additional locations in the US in the coming years.
