Thai woman to challenge record-breaking male cyclist in eight week race

A Thai woman is challenging a male cyclist to race across the United States in a bid to break a world record Anucha Sansitphon, a former Thai national team member, was inspired by cyclist Kurt Searvogel, who holds the record for the fastest coast-to-coast cycling trip in the US at 10 days, 21 hours and 43 minutes. She is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest female cyclist to cross the US. Her journey started in San Francisco on Friday the 13th of May and she is expected to arrive in New York on 10th July, having traveled over 3,700 miles on her bicycle. Anucha was inspired to take on the challenge after seeing a documentary about Kurt Searvogel’s record-breaking ride. She said, while she is aware that she has a long way to go, she is confident that she can break the record and inspire other women to push themselves. The 35-year-old cyclist said she has been training hard for the challenge and is used to long-distance cycling. She has previously cycled across Thailand and Vietnam.
